VISION
We envision a food and fiber system for Kentucky
that provides safe, adequate, and nutritious food for human consumption
in a manner that is socially, economically and ecologically sustainable
and is a vital component of the state's economy.
MISSION
CFA's mission is to organize and encourage
cooperation among farmers, rural, and urban citizens, through
leadership development and grassroots democratic processes, to ensure
an essential, prosperous place for family-scale agriculture in our
economies and communities.
BELIEFS
- We believe that the prosperity of rural and
urban communities are linked and that economic development must include
rural and urban citizens working together; that rural and urban
citizens together must restore agriculture that serves the interests of
this mutual community.
- We believe that agriculture can be founded on
traditional values and sustainable farming methods, on farms that
produce products for people rather than commodities for markets, and
with the cooperation of both rural and urban citizens.
- We believe that the independent family farmers
are the most reliable, efficient, careful producers of food and fiber
for our citizens.
- We believe that healthy farms provide a
foundation for strong rural community life.
- We believe that all workers and farmers must be
allowed a fair return for their labor.
- We believe that communities must be
economically stable in order to be healthy and prosperous, and that
local control over economic development results in healthier
communities.
- We believe that all people have the right to
organize to identify their own long-
term needs and to act to secure those needs; that democracy must be
inclusive. All people, regardless of race, income, gender, sexual
orientation, age, citizenship status, nationality or religion, need to
join together in creating responsive policies and prosperous
communities.
GOALS
To build an organization to improve the quality of life in rural and
urban communities. - To make institutions accountable.
- To foster the development of policies and
programs that reflect the mutual needs and priorities of rural and
urban communities.
- To create participatory democratic economic
development systems in rural and urban communities across Kentucky.
